CPqD was created in 1976 as the Research and Development Center of Telebrás, a government-owned company that used to have the monopoly of the public telecommunications services in Brazil. Since then, it has held a technological vanguard position, in tune with the future and ahead of the needs of a society that changes and progresses at high speed. In 1998, with the privatization of the Telebrás systems, CPqD became a private law foundation, increasing its work both in scope and market cover. It develops an extensive research and development program, the largest in Latin America in its area, creating solutions in TICs that are used in several sectors: telecommunications, financial, power, industrial, corporate, and public administration.
